METRO STAR Vanpool Honored for Award-Winning Partnership

The METRO's STAR Vanpool team recently received the national "Outstanding Public/Private Partnership" award from the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) at its 34th National Convention in Denver on Aug. 7. The award recognizes successful public-private collaborations on transportation demand management (TDM) initiatives.

Fluor's relocation was challenging and unique because it involved relocating approximately 1,600 employees to the new location by mid-2024. The significant distance between employees' homes and the new work site posed logistical and accessibility challenges, making commuting difficult for many employees.

Danicel Cromwell, METRO's vice president of Ridership Services, said the vanpool team stepped in with on-campus demonstrations and virtual sessions to introduce employees to the vanpooling option.

Fluor now has designated parking for vanpool vehicles at its new campus and expects at least 4-5 vanpools to start by early September. By providing an alternative commuting solution, METRO STAR helped Fluor employees transition smoothly, alleviating long-distance travel concerns and reducing personal vehicle use.

Cromwell said the recognition showcases the strong collaboration between METRO and its public/private partners.

“It really demonstrates the transit authority’s commitment to improving transportation and providing effective regional commuter solutions,” she said.
