BOOSTing Transit: Work Begins on METRO's 82 Westheimer Corridor

METRO's 82 Westheimer corridor is a crucial 19-mile route running from near downtown Houston through the Montrose, Greenway Plaza and Galleria areas, Westchase, and by West Oaks Mall. It is recognized as one of the busiest and most vital transit lines in the city, facilitating more rides than any other bus route in Texas.

In February of 2023, it was announced the busy corridor would receive $5 million in federal funding to rebuild segments of Westheimer to enhance bus service.

The goal of the METRO BOOST initiative is to provide a better walk, a better stop, and a better ride. This includes:

• New or improved sidewalks
• Accessibility upgrades
• Bus shelters with lighting
• Digital real-time bus arrival information
• Traffic signal improvements

The initial phase of the BOOST 82 Westheimer project has started. It includes 50 new bus stops, new sidewalks, curb ramps, and repaving of the road.
